Line and Shape |
Pattern and Texture |
I chose to shoot my line and shape photos outside in my yard. I also chose to take some photos of nature, and some photos of man-made objects (bicycle, fence, swing set). Most of my photos are taken horizontally, up close, and from all different angles. I considered the rule of thirds when i took my shots. I didn't put the object I was focusing on in the center of the photos. In the photos of the fence, flower, rake, and bicycle tire, I made sure the object wasn't in the middle of the photo. The photo of the fence is a dynamic composition that leads the viewers eye through the work. It has a balance of lights and darks and has emphasis on both the fence and the shadow.

The first shot is taken close up, looking through the bicycle racks at school. It is taken low to the the ground, looking at the object at a profile. The photo is horizontal. It does follow the rule of thirds, the object the photo is focusing on (bike rack) isn't right in the middle of the shot. This photo is a good example of pattern and rhythm because it shows the repetition (pattern, rhythm) between each bike rack. The fifth image may be overexposed, it's a little bright in the sky. The fourth image may be underexposed. I think not enough of the object is the sky, making the rooftop look darker. The first photo is an example of a properly exposed photo, it has just the right balance of lights and darks in the photo. Nothing in the first photo is too dark or too light.

Painting with Light |
For the first photo I used a shutter speed of 1/1000, an ISO setting of 200, and a white balance setting "direct sunlight". I froze the action of the pinwheel spinning. I took this photo close up, and straight on. The positive space, the pinwheel, and the negative space, the background, create a nice contrast.
For the second photo I used a shutter speed of 1/25, an ISO setting of 200, and a white balance setting "direct sunlight". The movement of the pinwheel is blurred. I took this photo close up, and straight on. The photo has a strong contrast between the pinwheel (positive space) and the background (negative space). The photo also follows the rule of thirds, to keep a balance of lights and darks. |
In the third photo, I used a shutter speed of 2.5 seconds. I used a string of christmas lights for this photo. To achieve the effect, I spun the light source in a figure-eight shape. The viewer may be drawn towards the shapes and the color of this photo.
