Expressive Light
In the last photo (7), I used light from behind. The camera was angled from straight on, and horizontally. I chose to take the picture so close for a dramatic effect and to show the harsh contrast of the leaves with the back light. The profile shot helps the viewer really see the leaves right away. I didn't use a light reflector while taking this photo so I could get a harsh contrast between the positive (face) and negative (hair) space.
We photographed for a tropical vacation magazine. The flowers and leaves showed that. Abby was created a relaxed and peaceful mood by keeping a straight face. The series of photos begins with a serious and stressful mood, which would be as if it were before the vacation, and as you reach the end of the series it finds a calming mood as if it were during a vacation.
I chose the last photo (7) as my favorite because of the lighting the the position of the photo. The profile shot creates a dramatic effect and demonstrates the element of contrast. It has a large range of values and lots of positive and negative space. I also like how Abby isn't in the center of the photo, so it is more interesting. I think the lighting from behind makes this photo so successful.
